For most of 2012 and 2013, Saif Ali Khan was on a roll as he delivered several hit films such as Cocktail (2012) and Race 2 (2013). However, the lull began towards the end of 2013, when Bullett Raja (2013) failed to do well. His next two films — Humshakals (2014) and Happy Ending (2014) — also did not have a great run at the box office. Around then, Saif faced a lot of flak for his choice of films. Now, however, the actor seems to have learnt his lesson.

An insider tells us that Saif is being extra careful about the films he signs next. “He wants to be extra sure of the script and his character before he decides to do any film,” adds the source. Apparently, Saif walked out of Farhan Akhtar’s next production for similar reasons. “Although rumours claimed that he didn’t do the film as the money involved wasn’t up to the mark, the truth is that he was unsure about his role. He felt it would present him in the same light that many other films have,” says the insider.

So far, the actor has only signed director Sujoy Ghosh’s film, that is being produced by Ekta Kapoor, and is expected to go on the floors in April. Other than that, Saif is looking forward to the release of director Kabir Khan’s next that is set to hit theatres in August. “Since he has some time on his hands this year, he wants to spend it reading scripts, and meeting writers and directors,” adds the insider.
