Today, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor will make their first appearance together to promote their film, Agent Vinod. The duo will join the commentators during the innings break at the Neo Sports studio to discuss the Indo-Pak match and their upcoming spy thriller. The film’s ads have been playing since the first match of the Asia Cup on March 11 and will continue till the finals on Thursday.
Saif plays an Indian agent and Kareena a Pakistani agent on an SOS mission. “It’s a global nightmare scenario and the kind of terrors that come from us having become nuclear. When we were scripting, I had a chat with journalist Vir Sanghvi and he agreed that the picture was realistic in a dramatic sense, jazzed up with colourful characters,” says Saif. The star producer admits to being conscious of the fact that a large section of the audience for Bollywood films are Pakistanis. So, rather than indulge in commercial Pak bashing that has created blockbusters in the past, he decided to present a truer picture.
“There’s a good Pakistan and a bad Pakistan working against each other and that is mirrored in our movie. The heroine is Pakistani and not only is she not bad, she’s good, as are some other characters. But there are some bad people too, working with mafia dons and planning a terror attack on Asia,” he says, pointing out that it was the same in Bond movies at the height of the Cold War when the British agent was working with Russian counterparts. “There are good and bad people in every country and they make for credible heroes and villains in our movies.”
