Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif spent an eventful hour spilling Bollywood secrets and sharing interesting tidbits with the winners of HT Stars in the City contest.
The Nawab of Pataudi, 49, was at his humourous best, and giving him company was Katrina Kaif, who revealed a rather spunky side of her. Although she has worked with Saif in Race (2008) in the past, Kabir Khan’s upcoming is the first film where the two are paired romantically. When asked what it was like working with Saif, Katrina, 32, didn’t mince words. “Surprising, sometimes annoying and sometimes funny,” she said.
Since fresh pairings is the trend these days, a fan asked Saif if he’s like to be paired with actor Alia Bhatt. “I don’t know what kind of a film that will be, as she is 25 years or so younger than me. I’ve seen her as a child when I was working on Bhatt sahab’s film. Anyway, a Hindi film hero must work with at least eight generations of actresses,” he joked.
As the chat steered towards Saif doing his own stunts instead of using a body double, the actor said that it’d be much easier if he had a double that actually looked like him. “If I had a very handsome duplicate, things would be easy. But he better look like me, not just someone with a big nose! I am too unique to have a doppelgänger,” he joked, adding that he had a photo of actor Ranbir Kapoor’s lookalike, to which Kat, who is dating Ranbir, said, “Why do you have Ranbir’s photo on your phone?” Saif shot back saying, “He is family (referring to Ranbir being his wife Kareena’s cousin), why can’t I have his photo?”
Actors Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, filmmaker Kabir Khan, along with author Hussain Zaidi, came to HT City to meet winners of the Stars in the City contest. In a chat with Sonal Kalra, National Editor - Entertainment and Lifestyle, the team discussed their upcoming film, Phantom, took questions from the audience, and even played a round of dumb charades.
Saif, you started out pretty young and have done a large number of films in different genres. What keeps you motivated?
Various things — sometimes positive, sometimes negative. Like, when I see somebody else looking great, then I am like, ‘What am I doing?’ I get lazy at times, and then, when I see young handsome actors, that motivates me. But this is what I call negative motivation, as it doesn’t come from within. Overall, I find it hard to maintain the same standard of motivation.
Saif, when do you and Kareena plan to have children?
Well, we are not in a rush because when you have children, your live revolves around them. Right now, acting is our life. Also, we want to enjoy life with each other. Children will come much later, when we are ready for it.
Katrina, are you interested in any other aspect of filmmaking like composing music or direction?
It would be very bad for a film to have me as a music director. I would love to be a director, but I don’t think I am capable enough to take quick decisions, so I wouldn’t mind co-directing a film.
Katrina, are you an insecure actor?
Every actor is insecure about their work, but ths insecurity is a good thing, as it pushes you to work harder.
