In the last four years, he has had five releases (Ek Tha Tiger; 2012, Bodyguard; 2011, Ready; 2011, Dabangg; 2010 and Wanted; 2009) during the Eid that follows Ramazan. And all of them have gone on to become blockbusters. So much so that this festive period is considered to be Salman Khan’s bastion.

This year though, he won’t keep a date with Eid (arch-rival Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express fills the spot).

Now, the news is that his next action film, brother Sohail Khan’s Mental, is finally set to open during the Republic Day weekend next year. A remake of the 2006 Chiranjeevi-starrer Telugu hit Stalin, the film will release on January 24. Salman’s last big release, Dabangg 2 was also a non-Eid release (it opened during Christmas in 2012).

“Initially, a few weeks were lost because of Salman’s medical trip to the US, but now Sohail is working hard on compensating for that loss. However, he isn’t in a hurry because he cannot compromise with the quality of the film. After consulting with Salman, he has decided to come out on January 24,” says a trade insider.

When asked if Mental is scheduled to release on the national holiday weekend, Sohail, currently shooting for the film round-the-clock, sent us a text message saying, “Yes, hopefully.”

So far, Mental has constantly been in the news over its reported release date. It was supposed to clash with Ranbir Kapoor’s next, Besharam on October 2. Then, it was suggested that the film might release on November 22, before another set of stories came out stating that the Khan brothers were considering a December release.

Salman to hit the stage
Apparently, the star is set to perform in Chicago, USA, at a concert commemorating 100 years of Indian cinema. Sudesh Sonawane of Entertainment Synergies (organisers) said in an interview, “It's only fitting that Bollywood's biggest superstar is a part of the celebrations.” The event will go on from August 30-September 1.
