Salman Khan's Dabangg 2 makes over Rs. 101 crore in first week
After Dabangg, Bodyguard and Ek Tha Tiger, actor Salman Khan has done it once again. Within six days of its release, Dabangg 2 has entered the Rs.100 crore-club with collections amounting to Rs.100.78 crore.bollywood Updated: Dec 28, 2012 16:13 IST
The movie, directed by Arbaaz Khan, hit the milestone figure in under a week. That’s faster than Salman’s previous superhit, Ek Tha Tiger.
The film opened in 3,500 screens across the country (effectively ousting any other film, Indian or international), and in its very first weekend, brought in Rs 65 cr.
Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi says, "Salman Khan is at a stage in his career where even if you shoot him eating biryani for two hours and show the footage in cinema halls, it will be a blockbuster. Dabangg 2 is the biggest opener among non-holiday releases and has been rock steady over the weekdays too. With almost no serious competition till January 11, it is well on its way to joining the list of the biggest Salman grossers."
Trade analyst Komal Nahta feels that the movie, a mass entertainer, has performed so incredibly that the excitement and expectations from a Salman Khan movie are only going to rise.
However, trade analyst Vinod Mirani, while agreeing with the others, feels that the film could’ve done better. He says, "It’s doing well, but considering the hype it generated, it was expected to do even better."
Friday: Rs 21.10 crore
Saturday: Rs 19.06 crore
Sunday: Rs 25 crore
Monday: Rs 12 crore
Tuesday: Rs 16 crore
Wednesday: Rs 8.12 crore
