Director Kaushik Ghatak grew up reading about the adventures of fictional Bengali sleuths like Feluda, Byomkesh Bakshi and Kiriti Roy. Now, he is all set to make a detective film of his own. Come April 25, the Rajshri Productions film,
will hit screens.
“I always wanted to make a detective film. We don’t have a Hindi-speaking sleuth as such. It took me four years to write this film and create a world around Samrat (the protagonist). I am thankful to Kavita Barjatya (producer) who was excited to work on something in this genre,” says Kaushik, who has, in the past, directed TV soaps like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
It was after searching extensively that Kaushik found
as the most suitable actor for the title role. “We needed someone who was not boyish, but not too mature-looking either. And there needed to be some intensity in the person. Rajeev fit the role,” he says.
Rajeev says, “I knew about Kaushik from my TV days, but I’d never met him. When he narrated the story, he didn’t even have to look at the script. He knew the dialogue by heart. I said ‘yes’ within two hours. The script was fantastic, the director looked intelligent and Rajshri is a production house everyone loves to work with.”
