Rumours about the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Aankhen (2002) getting a sequel began doing the rounds last year. There were talks that the film would star Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor and that Reliance Entertainment might produce it. Later, there were even reports that Gaurang Doshi, producer of the first film, would be making this movie as well. But now, there’s finally some clarity on the project.

An insider says, “Raj Taru and Eros will collaborate and produce the film. Apoorva Lakhia is directing the film and it will be a sequel to Aankhen. The makers are looking at turning it into one of the biggest multi-starrers of 2014.”

The insider adds that casting for the film is on and it will have two male leads. “As the story takes off from where the original film ended, the makers are keen to have Amitabh Bachchan on board. The actor is most likely to star in it as he had a prominent role in the original. Apparently, the sequel will be a heist film as well and will have some well-known actors in prominent roles,” the insider says.

While there are rumors that the makers have approached a few A-listers for the film, they don’t want to reveal names till the casting is done. Apoorva says, “We are in talks, nothing is confirmed yet. It’s too premature to mention any names. I will let you know how things progress. I am busy with Zanjeer right now.”

A film about a bank heist, Aankhen was directed by Vipul Shah and had Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Sen in the lead while Bipasha Basu had a cameo.
