Shah Rukh Khan's much-awaited next film, Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express (CE), which also stars Deepika Padukone, was initially set for an Eid release on August 8. The actor, who had blocked the auspicious slot amidst much sparring with other filmmakers, now seems to have pushed his film by a day. Since Eid is on August 9 this year, the film's team has decided to postpone the release to that date.
A source close to the production house reveals, "As Eid is now on August 9, which is a Friday, the makers have changed the day of the release. They were certain that come what may, the film will release on the day of the festival. Moreover, it is also a holiday, which makes it better, giving the movie a long weekend." When we contacted the film's co-producers about this development, Gaurav Verma from the distribution team of one of the production houses says, "We always wanted to come on Eid for Chennai Express and now, as the festival will be celebrated on August 9, which also happens to be a bank holiday, it makes sense for us to release the film on the same day." And this move by the makers has resulted in making August the month of superstar releases with Akshay Kumar's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, John Abraham's Madras Café and Ajay Devgn's Satyagraha releasing in the following weeks.
