That Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar hosted this year’s International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Singapore is old news, but that their on-stage camaraderie might just bag them a film together, is something that’s just coming to light.
And it’s not just any filmmaker, but Farhan’s sister Zoya Akhtar, who may direct the two actors in her next. After attending the awards ceremony in Singapore earlier this month, Zoya was impressed by her brother and Shahid’s natural flair and ability to crack jokes. The director was so amazed by their spontaneity that she considered taking their pairing to a newer and bigger level.
A source at the award show says, “After the main event finished, everyone headed to the after-party, where a lot of people walked up to Shahid and Farhan to congratulate them for their entertaining act. Everyone seemed to be thrilled by the duo’s comic timing, and added that there wasn’t a single dull moment through the evening.” It was then that sister Zoya stepped in. The source adds, “Zoya was standing with a group of people and she was happy that the two had pulled it off so well.
She even said that she might cast them in a film, because if they could do such a great job on stage, then their onscreen timing would be fabulous.” In an earlier interview to HT Café, talking about their then upcoming IIFA act, Farhan Akhtar had said, “Shahid and I have great chemistry, at least during rehearsals. And we’re looking forward to hosting the event together.
It’s great fun to do this with Shahid, and we’ll add a little bit of our own touch to the show as well. I hope our act is liked by the audiences.” Zoya, a director who is known to make multi-starrer films, is currently working on the script for her next movie. When contacted, she says, “It was actually Ritesh (Sidhwani) who said, in jest, that I must cast them together. But as of now, there are no such plans.
I would be lying if I say they don’t share great camaraderie on stage. I think they did a fabulous job and you never know what happens in the future, right?”
