On Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, we talk to a few Bollywood stars who have been celebrating the festival over the years.
Shilpa Shettty Kundra
I will continue the practice of getting Ganpati home for as long as I can. I’m a huge believer in Lalbag Ka Raja.So I get a miniature version of Him at home. My mom has always been obsessed with Ganpati idols. As kids, we would visit all the big pandals at night. My parents would take us to at least five pandals. We looked forward to eating the modaks.
I started bringing Ganpatiji home from the year when my son was born. It means a lot to me. All these years The name of Ganesha is auspicious for every new beginning. He has certainly been lucky for me. We stopped immersing the idol long ago. Instead we bathe Him symbolically and do the traditional aarti.
I’ve been bringing Ganpati idol home for over 15 years. I started doing this ever since I landed in Mumbai from Moga, Punjab, to pursue a career in acting. Ganesha will help me achieve my goals faster.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
This is the festive season that I love the most. Every year we bring Ganpati home. During that time my otherwise-secluded home is thrown open for guests.
We celebrate Ganesh Mohotsava every year. But only on the first day. Every year we have a pooja and havan at home. Our panditjis come home to conduct the poojas. And the entire family participates. But we don’t bring an idol home.
