Bollywood star Salman Khan Monday slammed speculations that Shirish Kunder was asked to leave Kick project following the not-so-great response to his Joker at the box office.
Kunder had been roped in to direct Kick and now Sajid Nadiadwala will wield the megaphone for it.
"No, that's not true. Shirish left the film. He is working on something else. Ho gaya clear (Is it clear)? Good," tweeted Salman, who plays the lead role in the film.
Kunder's Joker released Friday and just a day later, he announced on Twitter that he is no longer on board as the director of Kick.
"Sajid Nadiadwala will be directing Kick. He had originally envisioned the project and I feel he is the best person to bring it to life," Kunder had tweeted Saturday.
“If things go as planned, Sajid himself will direct the film,” Sajid's friend told Mumbai Mirror.
Reportedly the film has been conceptualised by Sajid.
“Sajid and Shirish had a chat. The project, Kick had always been Sajid’s baby. Shirish thought it would be better if the producer called the shots himself,” added the close friend.
But a source suggests otherwise. “After the Joker controversy, Sajid decided to go ahead with the film without Shirish since it has always been his brainchild anyway,” the source told the tabloid.
HT's review Joker testifies to the power of the star in Bollywood. It is staggeringly inept. I can't imagine that it was persuasive even as a concept. Yet it got made, in all likelihood because Akshay Kumar said yes. ANUPAMA CHOPRA'S TAKE
