A few days ago, HT Café had reported that two of Katrina Kaif’s films — Bang Bang with Hrithik Roshan, and the Saif Ali Khan-starrer Phantom — are slated to open on the same day, October 2. Now, it turns out, Anushka Sharma and Sonakshi Sinha’s respective films too will suffer a similar fate.
As the release of Aamir Khan’s P.K. that also features Anushka, shifts to Christmas, it is now on a collision course with Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet that has the actor paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Two of Sonakshi’s films — the Akshay Kumar-starrer Holiday and Action Jackson with Ajay Devgn —will also release on the same day (June 6).
Incidentally, the makers of Sonakshi’s films lapped up the June 6 date only after P.K. left that Friday open by moving to Christmas. Last year, too, two of her films — Bullett Raja and R...Rajkumar — were set to release on the same day, but she apparently convinced the makers to postpone the latter by a week (it released on December 6).
This time, too, Sonkashi isn’t in favour of such a situation. “Hopefully, there won’t be any clash. Both are big films,” she said on the sidelines of an awards function, while adding, “I’ve no idea (how I will manage it). When I reach that stage, then we will see what and how it would be managed. Last year, too, I was in a similar situation and I think I managed it pretty well. So, let’s see.”
Trade experts also give a strict no-no to such clashes. “If two big films release at the same time, it’s not good for business. And ideally, no actor would like to see his or her films hit theatres on the same day,” says trade expert Taran Adarsh.
