Sonam Kapoor pays tribute to the iconic Rekha
Actor Sonam Kapoor is paying a tribute to actor Rekha at an award event, will perform on some of her hit tracks.
Actor Sonam Kapoor has had a great year with her film, Neerja, which has brought her acclaim, accolades, and a couple of international awards. And now that the award seasons have begun, the actor — a front runner for some awards herself — paid tribute to yesteryear’s diva, Rekha, at the Star Screen Awards show that was held last night (December 4). The awards show will be telecast soon.
Apparently, Sonam performed to a medley of Rekha’s popular songs, including ‘Pyar do pyar lo’ (Janbaaz; 1986) and ‘Pardesia’ (Mr. Natwarlal; 1979) at the event. The five-minute performance also saw Sonam sporting looks immortalised by the veteran actor, who is known for her unique sense of style and fashion.
A source says, “When the organisers were looking for an actor to pay tribute to someone of Rekha’s stature, they immediately focused in on Sonam. Sonam has proved that she isn’t just about the glamour, she’s also about substance. She is known to be a fashionista herself and is the only one who probably comes close to Rekha in terms of style. So, she was the perfect fit.”
When Sonam was working on the 2014 remake of the original Khoobsurat (1980), she had revealed that Rekha was a close family friend, and that she had given her blessings for the film. In fact, Sonam also makes it a point to show all her films to Rekha, as she takes her feedback seriously.
