Sunny Leone's Laila in censor trouble

The censor board has disapproved of the lyrics as well as the video of the item number, Laila Teri from Shootout At Wadala featuring Sunny Leone. The lyrics will be changed from Laila Teri Le Legi to Laila Tujhe Loot Legi.

Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala (SAW) has been in the middle of controversies of late.

Even as the debate on the authenticity of the facts presented in the film continues, the film has been pulled up by The Central Board of Film Certificate (CBFC). The board has disapproved of the lyrics as well as the video of an item number, Laila Teri that features Sunny Leone.

To ensure that the song can air on television at prime time, the makers have made changes to the controversial lyrics and the video.

“The original version of the song had the lyrics, Laila Teri Le Legi. If we had to retain these words, the censor board would’ve given it an adult rating and we wouldn’t have been able to air it on TV during prime time. So we have changed the words to Laila Tujhe Loot Legi. It sounds very strange but we had to do it,” says Gupta.

To get a U/A rating, the makers even had to reshoot certain portions of the videos. Apparently, CBFC had raised objections to the risqué outfit sported by Sunny Leone’s in the video.

“The video went back and forth almost eight times. Such things have never happened with us before, even when we shot songs like Mahi Ve (Kaante, 2002) and O Saki Saki (Musafir, 2004). I cannot shoot vulgar videos even if I try to,” says Sanjay.

Confirming the news, Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures, which is producing the film, says, “Yes various modifications had to be made to the Laila promo and song lyrics at the behest of the CBFC so that we could air it on television.”

However, the theatrical version of the film will feature the song with its original lyrics and video. SAW, which stars John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut, will hit theatres on May 1.
