Actor Sameera Reddy is happy with the trend of curvy body types in films today and she credits actors Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji for the trend. “I think it is good because we put so much pressure on ourselves to lose weight. But thank God, Rani Mukerji, Vidya Balan, these actresses are carrying those ‘buttery-soft’ bodies,” says the 29-year-old, who has done an item song, Kunda Khol, in filmmaker Prakash Jha’s upcoming flick, Chakravyuh.
According to her, she did not bother about weight issues for the song. “Today, just for one song people stick to workouts, diets and do extra preparations. But there is nothing of this sort in this song,” she says. “I came from Singapore five days before the song was to be shot and went to Bhopal and did it,” she adds.
As for her take on item numbers, Sameera says they are a prestige tag. “I think that today even for certain films, an item song has become so big that it can provide an opening to the film. I don’t say that an item number can carry the film, but it can definitely give it an opening,” says Sameera, who had earlier done an item song in Aakrosh. “Those days have gone when an item song tag was considered bad. It has become a prestige tag,” she says.
