The moment Arunabh Kumar and his friend heard the line ‘Ishq waala love’ on screen, they burst out laughing. “We thought, kuch toh karenge iss pe,” says the 29-year-old

IIT-ian, whose spoof of the Student of the Year track has become a viral hit with four lakh YouTube hits in three days. Called ‘Gana wala song’, it mocks the cliches in the video with lyrics such as ‘paise waala rich’, ‘moorkh waala fool’ and ‘Shah Rukh waala, foreign waala, budget waala song’.

The screenplay stays the same, but with a new introduction, ‘The current generation will ask for a better song’ instead of the original, ‘Our new generation will compete in love’.

But no, it wasn’t just a random bout of craziness that caused the satire. “There’s a little more method to the madness, actually,” says Kumar, whose online TV channel, The Viral Fever, has delivered another hit spoof in the past — one on reality show Roadies, called Rowdies.

Kumar, who has worked with SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment in the past, adds, “In mainstream recording, they used to say yeh nai chalega, tum bachche ho, so I thought there’s this beautiful viral space and we came up with our own thing. In India, people think
creativity is the jagir (holding) of a few people, which is not true. Everyone is creative, especially the youth.”
