A bevy of beauties is ready to descend on Bollywood — a 21 year old swimsuit model, an actress with movies in her blood, a keen fashionista and a former model. HT City takes a look at five of the hottest debutant actresses who promise to shake things up in tinsel town.
Film: Imitiaz Ali’s Rockstar, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor
USP: She’s a former swimsuit model
About her: Born and raised in New York, this half Czech- half Pakistani shot to fame with the Kingfisher Calendar in 2009.
A keen model, Fakhri made it to round three of the hit American series America’s Next Top Model before she was discovered by Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. According to sources, she auditioned twice for her role in Rockstar and beat off actresses such as Katrina Kaif and Shazahn Padamsee.Sonakshi Sinha
Film: Abhinav Kashyap’s Dabangg, costarring Salman Khan.
USP: Her acting pedigree.
About her: The daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi has received rave reviews ever since rushes of the film began airing on TV.
Sinha started her career as a model, and also walked the ramp at Mumbai’s Lakme Fashion week in 2008 and 2009. She has formally studied fashion designing and designed the costumes for the 2005 film Mera Dil Leke Dekho. Interestingly, Sonakshi was asked to lose a lot of weight before the filming of Dabangg started, but has been super fit since then.
Film: Mohit Suri’s Crook, costarring Emraan Hashmi.
UPS: A South Indian star, her acting has been appreciated by critics.
About her: This Dilli di kudi did her fashion designing from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. She started her career with a 2007 Telugu film, Chirutha, costarring superstar Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja, and has become a household name in South Indian cinema.
In her Bollywood debut, Neha plays the character of a young girl, born and raised in Australia, who tries to mend the cultural divide between Indians and Australians.
Film: Wilson Louis’s Mallika opposite Sameer Dattani.
USP: She’s determined and believes in herself.
About her: A Delhiite who graduated in English literature from Sri Venkateswara College, Sheena moved to Mumbai two years ago to follow her dreams. Nayyar has already got a second film lined up — Interview, costarring Jackie Shroff.
According to the actor, it’s her “ability to emote any emotion under the sky that will help her become a household name in Bollywood.” She says, “I’ve put my best foot forward forward, and people will appreciate the hardwork."
