Sonam Kapoor played a prominent role in last year’s blockbuster, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, alongside Salman Khan, and this year, she delivered a powerful performance in Neerja. But her father, Anil Kapoor feels that in the movie business, “there is always room for improvement, better films, and working with better people”. He says, “You can’t take anything for granted; you have to keep at it. Patience is also a part of your job along with staying on the top of your game. And that needs lots of self-assurance and confidence,” he says.

The Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) actor says it’s important for actors to look good as well. “If no good offers are coming [your way], you can’t be careless about your physique. That’s also part of your job,” says Kapoor, adding that we will soon “hear very exciting announcements” about Sonam’s films.

Speaking about his daughter not signing a new lot of films after Neerja, Kapoor says, “That’s how everybody works nowadays. All selfish actors all over the world, who want to do great work, take their time [to sign films]. There are times when two or three good movies may be offered to you at once, but sometimes, nothing appeals to you. So, you wait for the right film,” he says.

Kapoor, who has been working in movies for more than 35 years, says hard work is everything in such a competitive industry. “Even when you are not working, you still have to try and improve yourself as an actor and as a human being. So, you are keeping yourself engaged physically and mentally by reading, watching and observing things. Besides, of course, meeting new people. Also, I feel that there’s nothing wrong in pursuing a project or making it happen by inspiring the writer or the makers. That’s nothing to be shameful about,” he says.
