Saif Ali Khan’s second home production, Agent Vinod, is gearing up to release this Friday. While the recent chartbuster from the spy thriller, Pyaar ki pungi, is a rage on the internet and is playing everywhere, it has also sparked off charges of plagiarism.

YouTube posts allege that the film’s second item number featuring Saif and Mallika Haydon, has been lifted from an Arabic song and also draws from Hassan Jahangir’s Hawa Hawa Khushboo Luta De. That’s not all. A Tehran-based pop band, Barobax, has pointed out striking resemblances to their 2010 track, Soosan khanoom. Not just the peppy beats, but also the music video set in Café Paris, has invited comparisons, given that three of the band members, Khashayar, Keivan and Hamid, make funny faces and clown around, à la Saif in a hotel lobby in the video.

Brushing aside the allegations, co-producer Dinesh Vijan retorts, “There is no infringement of copyright or any other right. And any attempt to initiate proceedings for alleged infringement of copyright is ill-conceived, ill-advised and untenable by law. Any action in this regard will be vigorously opposed and resisted in accordance with the law.”

Meanwhile, another rumour doing the rounds is that the hit composition, scored by music director Pritam and sung by Mika Singh, was actually created for Dharma Productions’ Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The film will soon go on the floors and will be directed by Ayan Mukherji. Saif dismisses the rumour, saying, “I don’t know who else was interested in it but Pyaar ki pungi was created for my upcoming films, Cocktail.

We just transferred it from one of our productions to another. The film already has another item song, a ‘mujra’ and a rock song by Parikrama.”
