Only a few years into Bollywood, 26-year-old singer Arijit Singh has delivered a chartbuster with over 8 million views on YouTube. And, the, Tum Hi Ho singer (from Aashiqui 2), is overwhelmed by the response the song has received.
“It feels great. I never knew that YouTube views were so important. The song is not very peppy but surprisingly, it has been liked by the audience. This is so unexpected and quick,” he says.
A romantic at heart, Singh says that this number happens to be his favourite too. “I like to be peaceful and think about the person I love. And this song is just about that feeling,” he says.
After lending his voice to songs such as Phir Le Aya Dil (Barfi!), Raabta (Agent Vinod) and Yaariyan (Cocktail) among others, Singh is now working with music directors such as Vishal-Shekhar and Amit Trivedi. “I don’t know the names of those movies, but I have already sung for them,” he says.
And what’s his dream project? “Singing for a documentary that benefits the under privileged remains one of my biggest dreams,” says Singh, who began his career with a reality show in 2005. “Reality shows give a great platform to young singers but kids shouldn’t be exposed to showbiz at a very young age,” he says.
