Despite the ongoing Cricket World Cup, R Madhavan and Kangna Ranaut starrer Tanu Weds Manu, that released last month, is doing exceptionally well at the box office. No other big film has been released since then, thanks to the cricket fever that has overtaken the country. Interestingly, the film has made Rs 18.5 crores in its first week, a figure that is much higher than what Band Baaja Baaraat (R8 crores) and Jab We Met (R12 crores) netted in their first weeks.
The film’s lead couple visited BluO in Gurgaon recently and spoke about their upcoming projects. R Madhavan, 40, who described Manu as ‘the toughest character I have ever played’ says, “I am very happy with the film’s success. I believe in working on one project at a time and will announce my next film when I sign it.”
Kangna, 23, whose next release is Abhinav Deo’s Game, is excited about her next project “I am playing a cop for the first time.” Ranaut has even postponed her European holiday trip to promote Game, as per reports. When asked about her marriage plans, Kangna says, “I have always been a rebel. I feel that when and how you want to get married should be a personal choice and no one else should decide that."
Tanu Weds Manu’s big success can also be attributed to the fact that it had no competition at the box office. Trade analyst Komal Nahta says, “Definitely Tanu Weds Manu has been accepted in a big way and has been liked by all and the fact that it got nil competition just added to it.”
Actors R Madhavan and Kangna Ranaut have shown interest in the idea of working in a sequel. Maddy said, “While Tanu Weds Manu charmed audiences, the sequel, in my head, will shock them.” Kangna says, “It is a very special film. If the director decides to make it, I will be happy to act in it.”
