Film-maker Tigmanshu Dhulia’s last release, Bullett Raja, might not have done very well, but that hasn’t brought him down. The director is now concentrating on Begum Samru, which he calls “a dream project”. However, casting seems to have become a bit of a problem right now. “...because it (film) deals with exposure and sex. Our heroines are not comfortable to expose,” he says, adding, “I want to get a studio involved, that’ll give me the liberty to cast anyone. The pressure to cast an A-lister won’t bother.”
Another one of his films, Milan Talkies, is also facing a ‘casting’ crisis. “Milan Talkies is a dark love story. And for the first time, I will attempt a love story. The script is interesting. Main agar script ko hi ticket laga ke baech dun toh bikh jaayegi (if I sell tickets only for the script, even they’ll sell),” he says, adding, “Varun (Dhawan) liked the script, but he is overcommitted. So, I don’t know. I might make it with anyone, because I have so much faith in the film. It’ll run on its own merit, not on the star’s merit.”
Tigmanshu, who has acted in Gangs Of Wasseypur and Shahid in the past, will soon be seen in a TV show as well. “I am doing a TV show with Mr Amitabh Bachchan. I am doing it only for him. It’s an honour to share a screen space with him,” says Tigmanshu.
Since the director has worked with two Khans previously — Saif Ali Khan in Bullett Raja and Irrfan Khan in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gansgter Returns — does he have plans to work with the other Khans of Bollywood too? “Kyun unke saath agar film nahi banaoonga toh main acclaimed film-maker nahi banunga kya? (Why? If I don’t do films with them, I won’t be called an acclaimed film-maker?)” asks Tigmanshu, who’ll direct Irrfan in Killing Of A Porn Star, soon.
