Salman Khan’s Eid release this year, Tubelight, made Rs 21.12 crore on the first day of its release, despite opening to mixed reviews. The Kabir Khan film also stars Sohail Khan, Matin Rey Tangu, Om Puri and Chinese star Zhu Zhu.

Salman Khan seems to have missed a shot at the box office with Tubelight, his Eid release this year. The film, which opened to mixed reviews on Friday, made Rs 21.15 crore on day one. Though it is an impressive number in isolation, it is rather average for a Salman film.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures.

Last Year, Sultan made an opening collection of Rs 36.54 crore while Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) collected Rs 27.25 crore on the first day of its release. The figure for Tubelight, made on an estimated budget of Rs 1 billion, is rather disappointing in comparison and comes at third position in Salman’s biggest opening collection.

Tubelight was released across 4350 screens in India and an additional 1200 screens overseas.

According to boxofficeindia, Tubelight made Rs 6.6 crore on Thursday in the middle east circle. The Kabir Khan directorial edged past Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees which minted around INR 20.42 crore on Day One, but that film released on 3400 screens compared to 4400 of Tubelight.

Tubelight, also featuring Salman’s brother Sohail, child actor Matin Rey Tangu and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, is set in the backdrop of the India and China war of 1962. It released on Friday.
