TV actor Supriya Kumari, who made her debut with a small role in Zee TV’s Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, and in no time became the face of Bairi Piya too, is now taking a quantum leap to the silver screen with Rajiv R Ruia’s film, Zindagi 50/50.
“Offers keep coming, but I was not getting prominent roles in any of the movies before this. I was sure that if I did a film, my role should be powerful enough that it casts a spell in the audience’s mind,” says Supriya.
But although she has signed this one, the actor claims that she never really craved to be in films: “I was sure that I wouldn’t do a small role under a big banner. I was never desperate to do movies, but it was always dormant in my mind to do some good work,” says Supriya, who has played the lead roles in soaps like Looteri Dulhan and Ratan Ka Rishta.
In this film, Supriya plays a straightforward housewife, who stays in a chawl in Mumbai. “Her husband is an auto-rickshaw driver. She picks fights with her neighbours for the slightest of things, yet she is very soft from the inside. What attracted me about the character is that it has arrays of flavours to offer,” she explains.
Zindagi 50/50 is a film about the lives of three struggling girls. It also stars Paksitani model-actor Veena Malik as a sex-worker and Riya Sen a struggling actor.
An insider from the unit reveals that apparently, she will be doing some bold scenes in the film too. Ask her if it makes her apprehensive and she denies it, saying, “If the story demands it, I don’t mind. There are many variations in the same character.”
