The Bombay High Court on Monday allowed the makers of Udta Punjab to release the Anurag Kashyap film HC with just one cut and a revised disclaimer. The HC ordered Udta Punjab makers to remove the scene where Shahid Kapoor is seen urinating on crowd. Any reference to Pakistan is also to be removed.
Bollywood applauded the HC’s decision. Twitter is flooded with responses from actors and filmmakers celebrating the victory of free speech.
Alia Bhatt, who also stars in the movie said in a tweet, “And finally #UdtaPunjab will fly! Here’s to the freedom of expression, to our judiciary, to the industry, to the media and to you all (her fans on Twitter)!” Shahid Kapoor called this a ‘landmark judgement’ and said that this is victory for everyone.
