Director Ram Gopal Varma is going on an overdrive promoting his film Veerappan, which releases on May 27. In a startling revelation to TOI, a source close to RGV has claimed that the sandalwood smuggler was planning to kidnap Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in the same way he kidnapped another Kannada film star, Dr Raj Kumar from his farmhouse on July 30, 2000.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, RGV claimed that Veerappan considered himself to be more famous than Rajinikanth, and even wanted a film made on him as part of his ransom. The tweets further reveal that Veerappan wanted the film to be much bigger in scale than Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen, based on Phoolan Devi.

In other tweets, RGV also talked about the magnitude of Veerappan’s crimes.
Veerappan's demand was to get a much bigger film made on him than Shekar Kapur's Bandit queen because he was much bigger than Phoolan Devi— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) May 17, 2016
Phoolan Devi was present when 22 Rajputs were shot dead whereas Veerappan himself killed 97 police men and many many more civilians— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) May 17, 2016
