Vidya Balan has shed all her inhibitions to get into the skin of South sex bomb Silk Smitha.

  • The Dirty Picture

Sex icon Silk Smitha was a popular item girl who captivated millions. The actor was found dead in her Chennai apartment in 1996.

From her head-to-toe covered look in No One Killed Jessica (2010), Vidya Balan has undergone a metamorphosis for her portrayal of the sexy porn star Silk Smitha from the 80s in Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture. The actor shows off her voluptuous figure displaying ample cleavage in low cut cholis and figure hugging bottoms in her most bold film till date.

While the film is take on item girls from the south, Vidya draws a parallel in Hindi cinema as well. She says, “I always wanted to do something like Jaane Do Na… from Saagar (1985). I am paying an ode to the film and Dimple Kapadia.”

The actor said she had to do a couple of rehearsals for the dances because of the 'in your face' moves choreographed by Pony Verma. The 33-year-old actor who shook her booty at her first live dance performance at the music launch of the film says, “I enjoyed the latka-jhatkas. Contemporary films don’t have songs for actors more than that one item number in the film. This film has fulfilled all my wishes - from dancing like the actors of the ’80s to wearing their clothes and loud make up, dancing around pots and rolling down slopes.

The actor admits The Dirty Picture pushed her to get out of her comfort zone completely”

“I loved the character because of her vibrant personality. And Milan’s conviction egged me on. I was waiting for the right opportunity to unleash my sexuality on screen. I got it this time. I was always comfortable doing this role.”
