Vidya Balan promotes Marathi film Ekk Albela in Australia

Actor Vidya Balan presented the Marathi film, Ekk Albela, at a film festival in Australia.

Actor Vidya Balan is currently involved in the post-production of filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s next film, Begum Jaan. But in between her schedule, she has also promoted Marathi film Ekk Albela on the global platform at the Indian Film Festival in Australia.

With this initiative, Vidya has become the first actor to present a Marathi film to be screened in Australia.

“Vidya is encouraging the organisers of every cinema event she attends to have screenings of regional cinema apart from Hindi films. She believes that regional cinema does so much to enlighten the West about various facets of Indian culture,” says the actor’s spokesperson.

“Vidya hopes that the special screening of Ekk Albela will hopefully generate more interest around Marathi cinema and Indian regional films as a whole on a global platform. The film is based on life of Bhagwan Dada and Vidya makes a special appearance as she reprises yesteryear’s actor Geeta Bali in the film,” says a source about the actor, who has been part of films such as Parineeta (2005) , Heyy Babyy (2007), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Ishqiya (2010) and The Dirty Picture (2011).
