Vidya Balan is known for her versatile acting roles. But now, her talent seems to have gone beyond the big screen. On the sets of her next film, Ghanchakkar, in which she stars opposite Emraan Hashmi, the actor, we learn, has turned her own stylist.
Her trusted costume designer, Subarna Ray Chaudhuri, has malaria and is not in a condition to work. An insider from the unit says, “She (Vidya) did not want a different stylist filling in for Subarna, so she decided to take the calls on her costumes herself.” This happened after the stylist started feeling sick in the middle of a shot, and had to be hospitalised.
“Subarna is Vidya’s favourite, and she can’t trust anyone else with her costumes. She will continue doing it (being a stylist) until Subarna is fit to come back to work. However, Subarna’s assistant is helping Vidya,” the insider adds.
Confirming the news, Manish Hariprasad, creative director, studios, Disney-UTV, says, “Subarna was supposed to be on the sets for the entire shoot. But she fell really ill, so Vidya is now managing her own costumes.”
We reckon Vidya has an added incentive to turn stylist. In the past, she has been criticised for her dressing choices. So, if the costumes turn out looking good, it might help repair her reputation. Directed by Rajkumar Gupta of No One Killed Jessica (2011) fame, Ghanchakkar is a comic thriller. In the film, Vidya plays the role of a housewife, who harbours personal ambitions.
