As one-half of the successful music-duo, Vishal-Shekhar, and the lead singer of Pentagram, Vishal Dadlani has carved a niche for himself. He is now going out of his way to promote upcoming music director pair Sachin-Jigar in Ekta Kapoor’s latest film Kyaa Superkool Hai Hum.
The young duo came up with the concept of a cool and funky song called ‘Dil garden garden ho gaya’ for which they were looking for a unique voice. Vishal’s name came up almost immediately.
“Since Balaji (Motion Pictures) has worked with Vishal as a music director in The Dirty Picture, they have a great equation with him. Everyone felt that he is the best fit. We don’t have a very big budget for this film, and we told him so. But since he is very impressed with Sachin-Jigar’s work, he decided to sing the song for free,” says an insider from the production unit.
However, the makers have decided to pay Vishal in a unique way. “We know that he supports Music Basti, a Delhi-based charity that organises music education programmes, and we have decided to donate the entire amount to this charity on his behalf. We have informed him about it and he feels it’s a great gesture,” adds the insider.
The CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures, Tanuj Garg confirms: “We were very keen for Vishal to sing Dil garden garden and he has done a spectacular job. Now it’s
our turn to return the favour, so we will make a donation to the charity soon. It’s good karma."
Dil garden garden...
Talks are rife of lyricist Mayur Puri being inspired by Gulshan Grover’s famous Dil garden garden catchphrase from International Khiladi (1999). However, Puri denies it saying, “It’s a common phrase in North India used to describe a feeling of joy. The tone of the song was set with this as a hook.”
