Vivek Oberoi has been at the forefront of philanthropic activities for a while now. The actor last adopted a village in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one of the spokespersons for the Tobacco Free Initiative by the World Health Organization, and has joined hands with the Indian government for the Van Dhan Jan Dhan initiative that promotes handicrafts, biofuels and other products, which are produced using forest materials. Vivek has taken up a new cause now.

A source close to the actor says, “Vivek’s new project aims to provide housing to more than 15,000 families in Shahapur in Thane district, at Rs 8 lakh per house.”

Vivek, who found it “challenging” to start such a project initially, says that the “work has begun in full swing now”. “We will wrap it up by next year,” he adds.

The actor is also “trying his best” to promote the initiative. “The idea behind the affordable housing project is that it should be beneficial to the people,” says Vivek.
