Vivek Oberoi has played the role of a gangster in many movies, including Company (2002), Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007) and Rakht Charitra (2010). Now, in his next film, Vivek will be seen playing Muthappa Rai, a former don, who was Karnataka’s most-wanted criminal in the 1990s. He will be teaming up with his mentor, film-maker Ram Gopal Varma, after a gap of five years for the project. They last worked together on Rakht Charitra.
The actor will begin shooting for the film in mid-June. He has even been sporting a French beard of late, similar to the one Muthappa has in real life. Soon, Vivek will also head to Bengaluru before the movie’s shoot begins to meet the close aides and family members of the former gangster-turned-businessman.
A source says, “Bengaluru is Vivek’s second home, as his wife, Priyanka Alva Oberoi, is from the city. He knows a lot about the place. To prepare for the role, he is making a hush-hush trip to Bengaluru to meet the people that Muthappa interacts with professionally and personally. He will stay there for a week to understand Muthappa’s background. He wants to learn more about his journey, and how he went on to become a successful businessman.”
