Alia Bhatt, who is receiving rave reviews for her looks and performance in Udta Punjab, met real-life hockey players in Mumbai while preparing for her role as an aspiring hockey player in the film that stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in pivotal roles.
The 23-year-old-actor, who recently shot for the sequence shares, “The girls (she met) were cool, tough and inspiring. There was so much that I learnt from them about the sport. It was a fun shoot as we clicked a few selfies.”
The Highway star took special efforts to learn the sport. She spent over a month-and-a-half in learning the sport and getting the postures right. Alia says, “Since I began practicing I have realised that hockey is a difficult sport and requires a lot of skill. I was given a coach and we trained at a place in Bandra. I would reach at around 6 am.”
Alia even tried to understand the issue of drug abuse in the state of Punjab. “I saw many documentaries and videos to understand the behavioural patterns of those under the influence. It was disturbing,” she said.
She also took a few tips from Shah Rukh Khan, who stars opposite her in Gauri Shinde’s next.

Udta Punjab is a film based on the lives of 4 individuals who are impacted by the problem of drug abuse faced in the state of Punjab.
Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Productions, Udta Punajb is directed by Abhishek Chaubey and set for release on June 17.
