After directing hard-hitting intense dramas like Mrityudand (1997), Gangaajal (2003) and Raajneeti (2010), among others, film-maker Prakash Jha is set to take the comedy route with his next production venture, Crazzy Cukkad Family.

Talking about the project and his change of genre, Jha says, "In the last couple of years, I have been looking at scripts and developing content. Ritesh Menon brought this story to me and I loved it. This film, though a comedy, has a lot of human elements in it and a beautiful message. We worked on it a few times, and the script took off organically. I am proud of it."

The plot of the film revolves around a dysfunctional family, and how it comes together during a time of crisis. The cast of the movie includes Shilpa Shukla, Swanand Kirkire, Ninad Kamat, Noora Fathami and Kushal Punjabi.

Interestingly, while the director is famous for his socio-political films, he has delved in comedy before, and maintains that he loves the genre. "I make socially relevant films, but I have also directed a comedy serial, Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne, in the past. I love comedies. They work if people can laugh, and feel for the story," he says.

Crazzy Kukad Family has been produced by Prakash Jha Productions and directed by Ritesh Menon. The movie releases on January 16, 2015.
