Shraddha, Shahid in Haider
The much-awaited trailer of Vishal Bardwaj's latest rendition of Shakespeare (Hamlet), Haider is out.
This is Bhardwaj's third Bollywood version of a Shakespeare play after Omkara and Maqbool had screenplays adapted from Othello and Macbeth.
Haider features veteran actors Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon, alongwith the lead pair Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.
Shahid Kapoor, who plays the lead role, is intense, evil and passionate -- everything you need for a Shakespearean tragedy. While there's little about Shraddha in the trailer, Tabu marks her presence even in the few small apearances she makes. Kay Kay Menon is impressive as the evil uncle.
Two scenes in the trailer especially stand out: first a face-off between Shahid and Tabu, and the other a scene between Shahid and Shraddha. In the face-off scene, Shahid tells Tabu "Maa jab jhooth bole naa, nahi acchi lagti". The pain and angst in Shahid's expression are heart-wrenching and Tabu too has pulled off the expression of loss very dramatically.
In the other scene, a half-naked Shahid is lying on the bed with Shraddha, pointing a gun at his temple and says, "Dil ki gar suno to hai, dimaag ki to hai nahi. Jaan loon ke jaan doon, main hoon ke main nahin."
