Director Gurinder Chadha is back with her next directorial venture - Viceroy’s House and the first trailer of the film starring Hum Qureshi and Manish Dayal in lead roles, was released Thursday evening.

The 2.15-minute-long trailer gives a sneak peek into the storyline -- a love story in the backdrop of the dying days of British rule in India.

Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi appear, discussing one of the worst periods of Indian history - the Partition -- as Lord Mountabatten conspire to divide the country before they leave.

The trailer promises that the film might be epic and intimate at the same time. Apart from the political upheaval, Huma and Manish depict a love story brewing between two different communities, interrupted by the impending partition of India. While all the actors transport us to the British era with ease, it is Huma who is the most impressive of all.

Co-written by Gurinder Chadha, Paul Mayeda Berges and Moira Buffini, Viceroy’s House is produced by Deepak Nayar (Bend it like Beckham, The End of Violence, Buena Vista Social Club), Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges.

The movie also stars Om Puri, Tanveer Ghani, Denzil Smith, Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles.
