Do family sagas work only on television or they can light up silver screen too? Debutante director Siddharth Malhotra has churned out family drama We Are Family without getting "melodramatic". Check out what movie critics and celebs have to say about the movie.
Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama
Debutant director Siddharth P. Malhotra surprises you constantly. Casting the best available talent for two pivotal parts and doing complete justice to their roles is tough. Very tough. But the ease with which he handles the tense moments between the women and also the emotional finale shows he has learnt his lessons well from his peers.
Nikhat Kazmi, Times of India
With two such fine desi actors re-interpreting the cult roles, there was immense scope for originality, chemistry and fireworks. Of course, the two do keep flashing their light eyes at each other and exchanging barbed words when the individual territories are intruded upon. But the fire doesn’t burn the screen and the smoke just doesn’t hit your eyes.
Again, the whole trip about the urgency of finding a substitute mother is strange when they have their father hale- and-hearty. It again reinforces the cliche that you need another woman to pack the kids' lunch and pick them up from school, and the father, however he may love the kids, just can't manage.
Aparajita Ghosh, Apun Ka Choice
For a K-Jo production, We Are Family is surprisingly restrained on melodrama save for its final half hour when the director pulls every string to get the hankies wet. The sentiment-crammed finale could give many a viewer enough lumps in the throat. I, however, was left with cloyed senses.
On flight back to Mumbai, Delhi majorly overcast getting fab reactions from theaters for WAF, ofcourse all ur positive messages. Happy smiling.
