At a time when weight loss seem to be the biggest worry for many young women, actor Bhumi Pednekar, who plays an overweight girl in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, says that she has always been comfortable with her body.

“Weight has never been an issue in my life. I was always overweight but I was very comfortable with it. I wore what I wanted; I ate what I wanted. There were years when I wasn’t overweight and then there were years when I gained back the weight, which is the story of every girl at some or the other point in her life,” says Pednekar, who still can’t get over the rave reviews that she’s been earning for her acting prowess in the film, which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana.

“Sometimes I pinch and ask myself, ‘God, really, is it happening! All these actors are actually appreciating my work?’ l’m totally overwhelmed, and nervous, too. It’s like a lot of mixed emotions inside me right now ... feels like I’m in a parallel universe ... it’s not sunk in yet. Everything seems very surreal,” says the Mumbai girl, who was working as an assistant casting director with a leading production house that eventually cast her as the lead in this film, after rejecting over 100 girls.

“In fact, I was the one who was auditioning others for this role, and then one day, I was asked to do a mock audition that was going to be sent out for reference. Much later, I was told that it was my audition. I couldn’t believe it. And now, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life,” says the 24-year-old, who wants to work with SRK and Salman.
