Anupam Kher has often expressed his admiration for Hollywood actor Robert De Niro. In fact, in 2012, he even shared screen space with the 72-year-old in David O Russell’s Oscar-winning film, Silver Linings Playbook. Recently, Kher was invited to De Niro’s birthday dinner. It was organised on August 17 at the Taxi Driver (1976) star’s hotel, The Greenwich Hotel, in New York.
“I was honoured to be part of the celebration. I really admire Mr Robert De Niro,” says Kher, who has also directed a short film, I Went Shopping For Robert De Niro, as a tribute to the veteran actor.
The birthday party was attended by an intimate group of about 30 people, including celebrities like George Lucas (director), Christopher Walken (actor) and Bradley Cooper (actor), among others.
“It felt great to meet people like George Lucas, and one of my favourite actors, Christopher Walken, at the dinner. It was an amazing experience,” adds Kher, while speaking to us from the US.
He is currently on a multi-city tour in the US for his play, Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha. Kher was also recently honoured by Annise D Parker, the Mayor of Houston, Texas, USA. Parker “proclaimed August 7, 2015, as Anupam Kher Day”, as a way to appreciate the actor’s “commitment to providing quality entertainment.”
