It’s been over a week since the 58th National Film Awards were announced, yet the film industry is still debating over why Peepli Live was not entered for the prestigious honours. Raghuvir Yadav, who played a pivotal role in the Aamir Khan production believes it had something to do with director Anusha Rizvi.
Is he referring to the creative differences between Aamir and her? Yadav shrugs, “I’m clueless about that. All I believe is that the film should have been entered for the National Awards, but maybe Aamir didn’t think it was necessary. Differences between the producer and director are so immature and the film suffers because of them. I have moved on after the movie released and haven’t been in touch with Aamir since.”The actor, who’s shooting for debutant director Ishraq Shah’s Ek bura Aadmi with Arunoday Singh in Udaipur, however maintains that the film grabbed a lot more eyeballs thanks to Aamir’s backing. "I don’t know how it would have worked if someone else had produced and promoted it but yes, Aamir’s presence did matter," he admits. However, he’s also quick to reason that if the film had not been good, marketing wouldn’t have helped. And ditto for awards. "Those who want to see it will see it, irrespective of how it’s promoted or whether it wins any award."
