When producer Jamnadas Majethia decided to unveil the first look of his Khichdi — The Movie outside Shah Rukh Khan’s Bandra bungalow, Mannat, on Friday afternoon, he hadn’t expected that the star wouldn’t cooperate. Or that he’d be asked to pay up Rs 1 lakh for spoiling the sea-facing garden opposite the heritage villa.
Soon after the unveiling, the Bandra Bandstand Residents’ Trust (BBRT) arrived to make a hue and cry over the garden and demanded to be compensated. Majethia admits that the huge crowd that had gathered had littered the place. He however insists that his team cleaned up afterwards.
“We’d taken the permission from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Police for the use of the garden. But then two ladies turned up and insisted it was private property. Our production guys and media agency tried convincing them that we had the requisite permission, but they wouldn’t budge so we moved away,” sighs Majethia. “It’s unfair!”
