Last year, Spain beat Netherlands to lift the football World Cup and sent the country into a tizzy. The Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara team, that includes stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, was there at the time and an eyewitness to the soccer frenzy.
Since more than 50 per cent of the crew was Spainsh, there had been plenty of discussions on the sets that centered around soccer and the delight over Spain’s maiden triumph was all too apparent.
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani joined in the celebratory mood and organised a small get-together for the cast and crew at a beach restaurant on the day of the finals. His guests tore down a TV screen when Spain won.
For Abhay Deol, the World Cup win was the biggest highpoint of the shoot: “The party was festive and fun and there was madness on the streets as people got drunk and fireworks went off."
Farhan recalls how the private bar was turned topsy turvy. “It seemed as if the roof would come crashing down,” he smiles. Director-sister Zoya Akhtar echoes the feelings despite being forced into early pack-up bang in the middle of a hectic schedule. She says, “I have never seen anything so crazy.”
