Last heard, the battle over the remake of the 1973 film Zanjeer had cleared up with the Bombay high court giving producer Amit Mehra a green signal. However, now we hear that the Supreme Court has issued a stay order on the film's release.

Apparently, the SC has ordered the arbitrator to complete the arbitration proceedings expeditiously and positively within the next six weeks. This order comes in the wake of Amit's brothers, Sumeet and Puneet, approaching it against the HC order.

For those who are unaware, Mehra's remake had run into trouble when his brothers Sumeet and Puneet terminated the contract that gave him the remake rights in the first place citing non-payment of dues.

The Zanjeer remake which features Ram Charan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Sri Hari, Prakash Raj and Mahie Gill was slated for release this June.

Approval of Salim-Javed must for Zanjeer remake: Arbaaz Khan
Actor Arbaaz Khan, whose father Salim co-scripted the film, feels that it's important to take the consent of all the people who were part of the original while remaking a movie. The remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer has been in news regarding copyright and royalty issues. Both -- Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar -- who scripted the original, have been fighting for the intellectual rights of the new version.

"It's important to take consent while making a remake and more so if the person has the rights of the film. There are times when writers either relinquish or give out their rights. In this (Zanjeer) case the remake rights were with dad and Javed saheb... so if this film had to be made so at least their approval should have been taken," Arbaaz told PTI. READ STORY

A feather in the cap of writer duo Salim Khan-Javed Akhtar was the 1973 hit, Zanjeer, that forged the on-screen image of Amitabh Bachchan as the ‘angry young man’. Now, with an Apoorva Lakhia-directed remake under way, the duo moved the Bombay High Court (earlier this month), seeking a stay order on the release of the new version. STORY HERE

Priyanka Chopra to don dual looks for Zanjeer
Pria Kataria Puri is the dress designer for Priyanka Chopra's next Zanzeer.

Pria calls herself filmy and says, "You can say, fully filmy. I love Hindi films and I love the way the heroines dress up, though very often I've felt that they don't dress in character. But I can't sleep without watching a Bollywood film every night." SEE IMAGE

SPOTTED! Priyanka Chopra. Sanjay Dutt on sets of Zanjeer
The world famous Peter F. Drucker once said, "If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old."

Well, little did he know that there will be a time when an iconic film like Zanjeer will be remade, and comparisons between the old and the new are just inevitable when we talk of remakes.

While the older version had Jaya Bachchan playing the role of Mala, the newer one has Priyanka Chopra, who also tweeted an 'on the sets' image from the film. CHECK'EM OUT
