After deciding to pen his first-ever children's books series, the international bestselling author will now make his debut in digital.

The two novels in the kids' series for Penguin Young Readers Group will be aimed at readers of the age group of 8-12. The first book in the series, Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer is scheduled for publication on May 25 and will follow the adventures of a 13-year-old, amateur attorney who unwittingly becomes involved in a high-profile murder trial. The second book in the series, also featuring Theo, is due to be published in 2011.

"It's an honour to welcome John Grisham to Penguin Group (USA)'s family of award-winning, bestselling authors. We are excited to be publishing him and we're proud to be unveiling his first children's series," says David Shanks, CEO of Penguin Group (USA).

Don Weisberg, president of Penguin Young Readers Group, says, "Theodore Boone delivers Grisham's trademark storytelling, perfectly spun for a younger audience. Kids are going to love it."

In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he's only thirteen years old, Theo Boone thinks he's one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk - and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom.

But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much - maybe too much - he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial. A cold-blooded killer is about to go free, and only Theo knows the truth.

"The stakes are high, but Theo won't stop until justice is served," the publishers said.

Grisham is recognised as one of the world's most popular storyteller, with over 250 million books in print worldwide, which have been translated into 29 languages.

Meanwhile, Random House, Inc. has announced the publication of the entire Grisham backlist of 23 titles from A Time to Kill to Ford County as e-books.

With the addition of the e-books editions, Grisham's body of work is published in the now-customary three platforms - print, audio, and digital.

"John Grisham is one of the greatest storytellers of all time," says Sonny Mehta, chairman of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

"Since the publication of his very first book, he has captivated readers with compelling characters, intricate plotting, and narratives about social justice that are impossible to put down. This is one of our most exciting e-book initiatives to date, and is certain to usher in a new generation of Grisham readers and e-book adopters."
