Highlight Story

Shipra Khanna’s cookbook Sinfully Yours is for those who are looking for easy-to-make desserts.

In an age of fancy innovations in the culinary world such as molecular gastronomy it’s rare to find a cookbook that doesn’t treat cooking like some scientific experiment. Most of the cookbooks treat their readers like experienced master chefs forgetting the purpose for which the recipe book was created. However Chef Shipra Khanna’s book Sinfully Yours is one of those books that make cooking dessert simple, fuss free and easy to follow for even those who cannot cook to save their lives.

Read: The Secret of Happiness, a heartwarming tale of two sisters

Cookies, cakes, mousse, jalebis, chocolates, there are around hundred recipes to try and choose from. The recipes let desserts be what they are – comfort food done comfortably and deliciously. From a very basic malpua recipe to a fancy banana pie with crème anglaise, the recipes have been made easy to try at home. If you have never baked a cake then try out the recipe of the vanilla sponge cake, and you will be glad that you did.

Read: Mystery, intrigue and fantasy | A book that leaves you asking for more

Some of the recipes such as the Indian bread pudding give you ideas on how one can use bread when last minute guests arrive and you don’t have much time or many ingredients to use to make a decadent dessert. One thing the book could have done better was use more pictures of the desserts to add to the recipes. The pictures don’t do justice to the book and it leaves one wishing that they would tempt us as much as the recipes did.
