Just a month after Encyclopedia Britannica stopped publishing its print edition, Britannica's publishers have now announced the launch of a subscription-based iPhone and iPad app to bring instant access to the entire reference tool on smartphones and tablets.

"Full access to the encyclopedia will cost £1.99 a month, just over half the cost of an online subscription. Falling sales of the print edition were attributed to the increasing availability of free information on the internet, although the publisher also recognised that the content of its books was quickly becoming obsolete", reports the telegraph.

The app's special features include a host of diagrams, charts and photographs and a LinkMap that allows users to make connections between articles.

Now, if you need to refer to the Encyclopedia Britannica, all you need to do is use the newly launched app on your iPhone or iPad.

Encyclopedia Britannica was first published in Edinburgh in 1768.
