Roger Hargreaves’ series of Mr. Men children’s books is to become host to the latest incarnations of the reincarnating time lord Doctor Who.
Four authorized illustrated books in the style of the Mr. Men are expected to arrive northern spring 2017, BBC Worldwide announced on October 11.
Each 32-page paperback stars a different version of the doctor, according to its title: Dr. First (played by William Hartnell,) Dr. Fourth, (Tom Baker,) Dr. Eleventh (Matt Smith,) and Dr. Twelfth (current actor Peter Capaldi) are all listed for an April publication in the UK.
Mr. Men were conceived of by British author Roger Hargreaves with publication beginning in 1971, and characters include Mr. Tickle, Mr. Happy, Mr. Bump and Mr. Silly. A corresponding Little Miss range was introduced in 1981.
Following his death, Hargreaves’ son Adam picked up the mantle; Mr. Men and Little Miss are now part of the Sanrio company, which is well known for its Hello Kitty character and merchandising.
Twelve titles in the Doctor Who meet the World of Hargreaves range are planned for publication through Penguin Random House.
