For the HT Café —Comic Con India cartoon contest, he had entered a comic combining the two aspects of this year’s Comic Con Mumbai — comics and films. Kini’s cartoon was declared the winner by our readers, with the majority of voting for him. The winning entry has Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) facing off with Shashi Kapoor, where both of them mouth their most popular lines in a hilarious mash up. “When I saw the Avengers earlier this year, I thought of the line from Deewar (1975). That’s how I came up with the cartoon,” he says.

Kini’s other works include covers and illustrations for publications, including Tinkle’s Butterfingers series for which he gets tons of fan mail. “I’ve been doing this since 1999,” he says. He does illustrations and makes animations for web projects as well. “I have my own series called Angry Maushi, which I will be retailing at Comic Con,” says Kini. The comic features a navvari sari-clad, potty-mouthed, buxom Maharashtrian woman on the cover, charging at you with all guns blazing. This weekend, Kini has a stall at the Mumbai Comic Con (A 20) where he will be interacting with fans, selling his comic and merchandise. “We have posters, mugs and many other things,” he says.
