Children's author Christopher Cheng was thrilled to be at the Bookroom: Festival of Children's Literature held over the weekend (25-27th)in New Delhi.  He gets candid about his love for kids and children's books.

Gleaming after a fantastic communal storytelling session with the kids, the Australian author said, "The kids were so smart, we created a wonderful story about a tiger and cake, it was great fun."

Cheng has been a prolific children's author and published stories on variety of themes like Australian animals, Aussie legends and so on. Excited about his latest book, Spooky Sounds, "I love doing stories for kids, younger kids love sounds stories…like Bhaaaam, Whaaaaammm, ouuuuuch, Baaaaanng!"

After so many books for children, what keeps him going? The author flips back his plaited hair, and says immediately, "Kids".

"I love writing stories that I as a kids would love to read, I want kids to have fun with my stories."

Talking about the trends in children's books publishing he says, "Publishers are trying to find books which strike a chord with both adults and kids. It's amazing to see a kid and an adult reading the same book on the train, and that's what everyone is looking for."

What is everyone looking forward to post Harry Potter? "Harry Potter has done something terrific by sparking interest in reading for both adults and kids like.

But kids are increasing enjoying new stuff like adventure stories, spy stories, even historical fiction is in demand. Kids love to read books where they can identify with the character."
