Unjustly prosecuted by a homophobic Britain, Irish playwright and novelist Oscar Wilde died at 46. Today he is best remembered for his witty society comedies, his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, his eloquent defence at his trial for “gross indecency” and his epigrams that poked fun at Victorian hypocrisy, among other things.
